Planning to install a new benchtop? Great! But before we get to measuring, cutting, and installing, there are a few important steps you should take to make sure the process runs smoothly — saving you time, money, and stress.
✅ 1. Finalise Your Kitchen Layout
Make sure your cabinets, sink position, cooktop, and any appliances are already in their final positions before templating. Any changes after templating may require a re-cut, which adds cost and delays.
✅ 2. Confirm Your Benchtop Height and Thickness
Standard benchtop heights are around 900mm, but this can vary depending on personal preference or appliance compatibility. Decide early on what thickness you prefer — common options include 20mm and 40mm edges.
✅ 3. Choose Your Stone (and Colour)
Visit the showroom or ask for samples. Think about durability, colour scheme, and finish (polished, matte, honed). If you need vein matching, let your supplier know upfront.
✅ 4. Ensure Easy Site Access
Our installers need clear access to bring in large slabs safely. Please make sure driveways, entry points, and work areas are accessible.
✅ 5. Allow for Drying and Setting Time
After installation, allow at least 24 hours before using your new benchtop to let adhesives and sealants fully cure.
💡 Pro Tip: Don’t Forget the Splashback
If you’re doing a splashback as well, it's best to install the benchtop first, then measure and cut the splashback to suit.
