Choosing the right sink is just as important as choosing your stone benchtop. One of the most common questions we get is: Should I go with an undermount or a topmount sink? Let’s break it down.
🔽 Undermount Sink
What it is: The sink is installed under the stone benchtop, so the rim is hidden.
Pros:
Sleek, seamless look
Easier to wipe crumbs and water directly into the sink
More modern and high-end
Cons:
Slightly more expensive to install
Only works with solid surfaces like stone or quartz
Needs professional cutout & sealing
🔼 Topmount Sink (Drop-in)
What it is: The sink is placed on top of the benchtop with a visible rim.
Pros:
Easier and cheaper to install
Works with all benchtop materials
Easier to replace in the future
Cons:
Harder to clean around the edges
Rim can interrupt the smooth look of the stone
💬 Our Recommendation
If you’re using stone benchtops (like Caesarstone, YDL, Lavistone, or granite), undermount is often preferred for a cleaner look.
For budget-conscious renovations or laminate tops, topmount may be more practical.
